First accept yourself. Then the world will accept you.
Born in 1982, Tesfaye Bekele grew up in Addis Ababa during a shifting cultural and political landscape in the country. As a young child he began drawing art out of interest as a way to document the images in his community.
Tesfaye’s art explores different kinds of everyday people. His work is also intimately linked to his personal experience with his own body and movement. His disability is not only part of his identify, but also the reason he settled in Addis Ababa where he was able to focus on his art. In 2010, he graduated from the Addis Ababa University Alle School of Fine Arts and Design in Art Education. Tesfaye currently teaches at the Ale School of Fine Arts and Design.
